This is my second year in Kazakhstan and I confess my experience working in NIS Shymkent keeps being rewarding in all senses.
This academic course I am having the opportunity to work with new local teachers and the pleasure of, not only co-teach, but also mentor three of them. They all come from the English subject and none of them had taught Global Perspectives and Project Work before. It is astonishing to see that after a month and a half they all have adapted to the subject due to their openness of mind, professionalism and good will towards the challenge of learning how to teach a new subject that is completely different to theirs.
Besides, this year I also have the opportunity to have in my team Mr. Nurlan, who has recently been pointed out as our new GPPW coordinator due to his leadership and hard working skills. Although he started to teach GPPW last year he has made a big effort to learn fast in order to improve and master the subject. The following paragraph reflects his thinking:
I have been teaching GPPW for almost a year now, and I realize that it is a very important subject, which improves students' knowledge and skills in their life. It is also good for teachers, because it is a challenging subject that pushes us to be up to dated with current information. Thus teachers become researchers. (Nurlan)

I am very grateful for having the chance to contribute to this educational project, leaded and sponsored by President Nazarbayev. Being able to work and support local teachers, contributing to make them better educators, as part of the development of an entire country, is something that just a few teachers can claim.
I feel I have a great academic year ahead, and that encourages me to think of extending my teaching experience in Kazakhstan more than just two years. Hopefully it will be a reality.
